The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded East Valley Water District (District) with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fourth consecutive year. This award is attained by publishing a budget document that serves as a policy and operations guide, financial plan, and communications device.
“The budget guides East Valley Water District through each year,” said Board Chairman Ron Coats. “The Governing Board of Directors works closely with staff to create a document that clearly lays out the goals and objectives we have set.”
The District’s fiscal year 2016-17 annual budget was examined by a panel of independent reviewers and found to have achieved nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The District’s budget document received proficient and outstanding ratings in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories. Reviewers commented that the level of transparency was informative to the reader, detailed and “awesome”.
“It is important that we create budget documents that are clear and straight forward,” said John Mura, CEO/General Manager. “Through the combination of traditional charts and tables with photographs and graphics, we have designed a budget document for a wide audience beyond just the financial professional.”
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
